A practice devoted exclusively to traumatic brain injury

Traumatic brain injury changes life in an instant. Recovery rarely does.

For many individuals, healing continues through time, rehabilitation, and the brain’s remarkable ability to adapt. Others continue to struggle with memory, concentration, cognitive fatigue, sleep disturbance, headaches, dizziness, executive dysfunction, and mood changes despite dedicated rehabilitation and excellent medical care.

These symptoms are often invisible. Their impact is not.

Axonal Brain Care was established with a singular focus. We care exclusively for individuals recovering from traumatic brain injury, through the physician-directed application of Precision TMS within a thoughtful, individualized model of neurological care.

Rather than applying identical protocols to every patient, we begin by asking a different question: what is unique about this person’s TBI? To answer it, a specialized advanced MRI and functional MRI is obtained for every patient. It shows what conventional CT and MRI do not: the precise location of the injury, so treatment can be aimed at it.

First we understand the injury. Then we build the treatment around it.

The Practice of Precision

Beyond a standard protocol

Mapping: decorative artwork. A relief map of a diffusion MRI slice. The scan’s intensity is drawn as elevation, seen in perspective, with contour lines cut where the surface crosses each level and a level sweeping slowly upward through it.

Many medical treatments follow standardized protocols. Axonal Brain Care was created because traumatic brain injury is not one of them.

  • Every patient arrives with a unique history.
  • A different injury.
  • A different recovery.
  • Different symptoms.
  • Different goals.

For that reason, we begin with an individualized evaluation rather than a predetermined protocol. This is the method we follow.

The Practice of Precision,
step by step

  1. Step 1. Individualized treatment strategy

Each patient receives an individualized treatment strategy based on your advanced functional MRI to the exact location of your TBI.

  2. Step 2. Injury mapped to discrete targets

Mapping your injury location using our proprietary technology identifies discrete targets to treat with Precision TMS.

  3. Step 3. A full Precision TMS course

A full Precision TMS treatment course using our state of the art Nexstim TMS System.

  4. Step 4. Real-time check-ins with your care team

Dynamic, real-time check-ins with your care team to assess treatment response.

  5. Step 5. Follow-up recommendations

The Axonal Recovery Review

The Axonal Recovery Review allows physicians to use advanced imaging to see inside the brain networks and map the locations that are producing persistent neurological symptoms. Our patented technology then allows us to target these locations to enhance recovery.

When recovery appears to plateau

Many individuals reach a point where progress seems to slow.

  • They have completed rehabilitation.
  • They have followed medical advice.
  • They have worked hard to recover.
  • Yet important symptoms remain.

Reaching a plateau does not necessarily answer the question of whether additional improvement is possible. It simply means the next step deserves careful evaluation.

The Axonal Recovery Review: decorative artwork. A line that rises steeply, then levels off and runs flat. From the point where it levels, four dashed courses open outward: one rising, one rising gently, one flat, one falling, none of them emphasised over the others.

Every recovery is different

No two traumatic brain injuries are exactly alike. Even when the mechanism of injury appears similar, recovery often follows a very different course.

One individual may quickly return to work and normal daily activities. Another may continue to experience cognitive fatigue, memory difficulties, impaired concentration, headaches, dizziness, disrupted sleep, or emotional changes months or years later.

These differences are not unusual. They reflect the remarkable complexity of the human brain.

Recovery is more than symptom reduction

Successful recovery cannot always be measured by the absence of symptoms. It is reflected in everyday life.

  • Returning to meaningful work.
  • Reading without mental fatigue.
  • Participating in conversations with confidence.
  • Making decisions clearly.
  • Sleeping well.
  • Being present with family.

These are the outcomes that matter most. They are also the outcomes we consider when evaluating recovery.

Imaging

Looking beyond the diagnosis

Persistent symptoms often result from the interaction of multiple neurological systems rather than a single isolated problem. Understanding these relationships is an important part of thoughtful neurological care.

  • Memory influences attention.
  • Sleep influences cognition.
  • Pain influences concentration.
  • Emotional health influences every aspect of daily function.

Accommodation is not the endpoint

Beyond
accommodation

Targeting: decorative artwork. A cloud of points inside a three-dimensional volume with a crosshair that moves from one point to another and settles on it, repeating. It stands for a treatment site being selected.

For decades, care after traumatic brain injury has centered on accommodation: strategies, tools, and routines that help patients live with what the injury left behind. That work matters. It is not the endpoint.

We do not stop at helping patients work around the injury. We target the damage. Using advanced imaging, we identify the specific regions where function was disrupted, then deliver treatment to those regions directly.

Accommodation helps patients function around an injury. Precision TMS is directed at the injury itself.

Rehabilitation teaches the brain to work differently. Precision TMS is designed to restore function at the source. At Axonal Brain Care we strive to do more than help patients adapt.

Treatment that can be repeated

Recovery is not
a single event

Recovery from traumatic brain injury is rarely a single event. Precision TMS is delivered as a focused course of treatment, typically over five to seven days.

Because the treatment is non-invasive and precisely targeted, it can be repeated when clinically appropriate. Patients may return for additional courses as their needs evolve, allowing care to continue over time rather than ending after one intervention.

This creates the opportunity for longitudinal support: treatment that adapts as recovery progresses, rather than a single attempt followed by a return to accommodation strategies alone.

Precision TMS

Precision begins with understanding

Transcranial magnetic stimulation has become one of the most significant advances in non-invasive neuromodulation. Its greatest value, however, is not found in the technology itself. It is found in the thoughtful way the technology is applied.

At Axonal Brain Care, Precision TMS begins long before the first treatment session. It begins with understanding the individual TBI, and with proprietary software that lets us map the exact location of the injury within your brain.

Axonal Brain Care uses Nexstim technology to deliver navigated transmagnetic stimulation guided by sophisticated three-dimensional functional MRI navigation.
